Dear Mayor Adams,
I stand with tens of thousands of New Yorkers demanding that you fund the NYC Parks Department at 1% of the city budget -- an overdue investment in parks equity and the future of New York.
On the campaign trail, you "proudly committed to a 'percent for parks' plan," stating that "parks are not a luxury, it's a necessity." Since taking office, you and your administration have repeatedly reaffirmed your forward-thinking commitment "to ensuring one-percent of the city budget goes to parks."
But your administration has not yet followed through.
Covid-19 highlighted the inequity in our parks system and the relationship between parks and public health, public safety, climate resilience and quality of life. Parks are critical infrastructure and must be funded as such.
New Yorkers deserve 1% of the budget for Parks.
Signed,
Your constituent
